Hey, I like what I like! This month...

The Santa Rita Reserva, Sauvignon Blanc

Uncork a perfect night on the patio!

I've sampled this Chilean maker for several years now and have yet to find a happier wine than the Santa Rita Reserva Sauvignon Blanc for complimenting snacks outside on a warm day with good friends. A consistent, affordable, and, in my opinion, an under-rated little favorite, this is a very merry wine equal to your enjoyment of fresh air patios and pedestrians (why not be polite and offer a glass?). It is equally as enjoyable for sharing couples to try on a dock, a deck, or a diving board. I find this wine goes particularly well with Greek cuisine. Whatever your designs, just take this beautiful bottle outside!

A perfectly relaxed yellow color, pleasant fruit scent, the only suggestion I have for this wine is that only one bottle be opened per sitting. It's not that any more would be too much of a good thing, but rather there is a slight acidity that seemed noticeably less refreshing during the second bottle. Fortunately, there are many good Santa Rita full bodied cabernets to try. Fantastic!

The future Santa Rita's are most promising. Owned by Ricardo Claro, who is also the owner of Viña Carmen, Santa Rita will have access to expanded grape volumes for their 2002 harvest. The grapes will be used for Santa Rita's Reserva-level wines.
